Didn’t really get a chance to listen today but a few themes are coming through.
1) No matter how hard they try to accentuate domestic issues-foreign policy discussions seem to predominate.
2) The tone is elitist, smarmy, and disingenuous and negative-there is no working class or middle class feel to the station-Lynn Samuels formerly of ABC was a legitimate NY working class radio personality.
3) The use of guest “start” Madeline Albright, Spike Lee, Hilary Clinton, Richard Clarke will not be sustainable-every day cannot be opening day
4) They are obsessed with Rush-Franken’s remarks about Rush sharing a prison cell with an “Afro American” was racisit, mean spirited and ultimately self defeating-
Note to Franken-people in recovery vote-those still active don’t
5) I live right on the fault lines of red and blue America at least locally and while I don’t think CT, MA, VT or NY are likely to go for Bush-we are not served by Air America-
6) There is a theme running across several shows that the mainstream media is conservative-while this attempt at triangulation is at least theoretically astute it is being undone by the heavy handed approach.
Several times I heard Franken say-that so many poor and middle class people vote against their own economic self interest and this phenomenon was due to the conservative bias of the mainstream media. It’s good that Americans now will have Franken to explain it’s own interests
Harping now on national debt-those fiscally responsive democrats-going on about lock box-
But privatizaton bet its not brought up
